Karlsruhe was founded on 17 June 1715 by Margrave Charles III William of Baden-Durlach after a dispute with the citizens of his former capital, Durlach, and its founding is closely tied to the construction of the palace. It became the capital of Baden-Durlach in 1718 and of united Baden from 1771 to 1945. The St?ndehaus, built in 1822, was the first parliament building in a German state, and in 1860 the city hosted the Karlsruhe Congress, the first international convention of chemists. After the Second World War, Ukrainians lived in a displaced persons camp in Karlsruhe, where the sports club UST Zoria was active, and in 2022 Vinnytsia became Karlsruhe's sister city.
Karl Drais (1785–1851), born in the city, invented the Laufmaschine, forerunner of the bicycle. Carl Benz (1844–1929) was born in M?hlburg, now part of Karlsruhe, and built the first automobile with an internal combustion engine. The neoclassical architect Friedrich Weinbrenner (1766–1826) was also born here, and physicist Heinrich Hertz discovered electromagnetic waves while a professor in Karlsruhe.
The city lies on the right bank of the Rhine, crossed by its tributaries Alb and Pfinz. Known as the fan city, it has 32 streets radiating from Karlsruhe Palace (1715), home to the Baden State Museum. The Pyramid on the Market Square (1825), the city's emblem, marks the founder's tomb; nearby stand the Little Church (1773–1776) and St. Stephan's Church (1808–1814). Majolika (1901) and the ZKM Centre for Art and Media add to the scene, and the Federal Constitutional Court sits here. Flowers can be ordered online for delivery in Karlsruhe from Ukraine or any other country.
At Christmas Germans often decorate their homes with poinsettias, the Christmas star, so festive bouquets with red flowers are a good fit. Mother's Day (Muttertag) in Germany falls on the second Sunday in May and is one of the busiest days for flowers. On Valentine's Day, February 14, bouquets are as popular in Germany as they are in Ukraine. Before holidays it is best to order early.
The most ordered bouquets in Germany are "Bouquet of 7 red roses", "Bright summer mix" and "Florist designed bouquet", often with "Candy Raffaello 150 g" as an extra. The average order with delivery to Germany is about UAH 7,000, and 43% of orders include a greeting card. 29% of deliveries fall on weekends. UFL data for 2025–2026.
