Bohorodchany: a little history

Bohorodchany was first recorded on 3 January 1441, when it belonged to Jan Buczacki, starost of Terebovlia. A tax register of 1515 mentions a priest and 12 lans of farmland, and in the second half of the 16th century the settlement passed to the Potocki family. In 1744 Oleksa Dovbush's opryshky stormed the Bohorodchany fortress, seized weapons and destroyed the tax registers. A Ukrainian primary school opened here in 1790, and a local Ruthenian Council of 29 members was formed in June 1848.

Notable people of Bohorodchany

Mechanical engineer and inventor August Salaba (1840–1894), twice rector of the Czech Technical University, was born here, as was mathematician Bohdan Ptashnyk (1937–2017), corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Places every local knows

The settlement lies on the right bank of the Bystrytsia-Solotvynska, 18 km from Ivano-Frankivsk, and is listed among Ukraine's historic settlements. It preserves the Dominican Monastery (1742–1762), the Dominican Church (1745) and the clergy cells (1762). The centrepiece is the Church of St John the Evangelist (1930–1934) by architect Yevhen Nahirnyi, home to the revered icon of the Bohorodchany Mother of God. The gilded Maniava Skete iconostasis, once kept in the local Holy Trinity church, is now exhibited in Lviv. We deliver flowers to any address in Bohorodchany.
