Bolekhiv: a town with Magdeburg rights

The Bolekhiv lands are first mentioned in writing in 1371, and 15th-century records name two separate villages, Volokh Bolekhiv and Ruthenian Bolekhiv. In 1546 a saltworks, the area's first enterprise, opened at Stara Bania. On 9 December 1603 King Sigismund III confirmed the founding of a town under Magdeburg law between the two villages, with nobleman Miko?aj Gedzinski as its founder. Bolekhiv station on the Archduke Albrecht Railway opened on 1 January 1875.
