What to know about Kompaniivka

Kompaniivka was founded in the second half of the 18th century on the left bank of the Suhokliia-Komyshuvata River by former Cossacks of the Hetman's light cavalry regiments, which guarded and scouted the frontier, probably after the regiments were reformed on 24 October 1775. From the 1850s it was a volost centre, and in 1898 a paper mill opened in neighbouring Komyshuvate, later part of Kompaniivka; it was the largest in the region and fourth in Ukraine. Kompaniivka became a district centre in 1933, an urban-type settlement in 1965 and has had settlement status since 2024.
