Korostyshiv in brief

Korostyshiv is first recorded on 26 March 1499 as a village of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. For 65 years it belonged to the Kmita family, and from 1565 to 1873 to the Olizar family. In 1779 the town received Magdeburg rights and a coat of arms bearing the Olizar emblem, a golden church banner with a cross on red. A teachers' seminary building went up in the early 1870s, and Korostyshiv has had town status since 1938.
