Liubashivka in brief

Liubashivka grew up in the 18th century along the Dovhenka gully, so the settlement was first called Dovhenke. In 1795 it had 163 households together with the Mykolaivka and Sofiivka farmsteads, and St Michael's Church appeared in 1811. In 1868 the Odesa–Balta–Olviopol railway was built nearby, and the station settlement merged with Liubashivka in 1960. From 1926 to 2020 it was the centre of Liubashivka district.

Notable people of Liubashivka

Sergeant Major Vasyl Bondar (1973–2015), a native of Liubashivka, was killed in the battle for Debaltseve and posthumously awarded the Order For Courage, 3rd class. Surgeon and professor Borys Zaporozhchenko (born 1941) and lawyer Ruslan Riaboshapka (born 1976), Prosecutor General of Ukraine in 2019–2020, are also linked to the town.

Liubashivka today

The settlement lies by its railway station and the M05 Kyiv–Odesa highway. Landmarks include St Michael's Church, the Chapel of St Panteleimon, the Taras Shevchenko monument and the house of culture. Liubashivka is called the capital of Ukrainian sausage and holds a festival of the same name, and its town day is 30 September.
