Mykulyntsi: one of the oldest towns in the Ternopil region

Mykulyn is first recorded in 1096 in the Instruction of Volodymyr Monomakh, and the Laurentian Chronicle mentions the town three times. In 1202 a battle between Prince Riuryk Rostyslavych of Kyiv and the boyars of Halych and Volodymyr was fought nearby, on the trade route from Halych to Kyiv. In 1550 the owner, Anna Jordan n?e Sieniawska, built a stone castle against Tatar raids; in 1595 Mykulyntsi became a town with three annual fairs, and in 1758 King Augustus III granted it Magdeburg rights. Ivan Franko spoke to local peasants here in 1885.

Notable people of Mykulyntsi

Natives include public figure Stepan Abrahamovskyi (1857–1916), historian Yevhen Sinkevych (born 1958) and singer-songwriter Olha Monastyrska (born 1984).

Mykulyntsi today

The settlement lies on the Seret River, 18 km from Ternopil. Sights include the castle ruins (1550), the late 18th-century Rey Palace in an old park, the Holy Trinity Catholic Church (1779, architect August Fryderyk Moszy?ski), the Holy Trinity Church (1889) and the statue of St. Florian (1797). The town has mineral springs, a sanatorium in the palace and a brewery making Mykulynetske beer. Our courier will bring flowers to any street in Mykulyntsi.
