What to know about Myrhorod

Myrhorod has been known since the 16th century; its name is linked to its reputation as a convenient place for peace talks. In 1576, by decision of King Stephen B?thory, it became the centre of a registered Cossack regiment, which fought at Korsun, Pyliavtsi, Zboriv, Berestechko and Batih. Danylo Apostol, a Myrhorod colonel who later became hetman, has a monument in the town. In 1835 Mykola Gogol published his collection «Myrhorod», and in 1912 a mineral water deposit was discovered here.

Famous names of Myrhorod

Portrait painter and academician Volodymyr Borovykovskyi (1757–1825) and writer Panas Myrnyi (1849–1920), author of the novel «Do the Oxen Low When the Manger Is Full?», were born here. The town also has a museum dedicated to Georgian poet Davit Guramishvili (1705–1792).
