Novohuivynske: from its founding to today
Novohuivynske, one of the youngest settlements in Zhytomyr region, was founded in 1973 and grew fast, from 2,829 residents in 1979 to 5,266 in 2001. A secondary school for 1,100 pupils opened in August 1982. In 2020 the settlement became the centre of its hromada within the new Zhytomyr district. Soldier Oleksandr Polishchuk (1978–2023), who was killed defending Ukraine in Donetsk region, is buried in the local cemetery.
Novohuivynske today
The settlement lies on the Huiva River just 6 km from Zhytomyr, linked by regular suburban buses, with Priazhiv railway station nearby. Very compact, it houses over five thousand people on 0.6 km?, with a gymnasium, music school and youth sports school; its hromada includes Troianiv, Synhury, Rudnia-Horodyshche and Ozerianka.
