Flowers in Samar delivered to a home or office: roses, hydrangeas, flower boxes and bouquets for any occasion. The greeting card is free.
The settlement of Samarchyk, also called Novoselytsia, grew on the right bank of the Samara River from 1736, during the New Sich period, and by the mid-18th century became the centre of the Samara palanka and the largest town of the Zaporozhian Cossacks. On 23 July 1757 Petro Kalnyshevskyi came here in person to settle a land dispute in the Cossacks' favour, and in 1772, on the initiative of palanka colonel Antin Holovatyi, master builder Yakym Pohribniak began the Holy Trinity Cathedral, the largest church of Zaporizhzhia at the time. Renamed Novomoskovsk in 1794, the town had its historical name Samar restored by the Verkhovna Rada on 19 September 2024 as part of decolonising place names.
Natives include cinematographer and director Vadym Illienko (1932–2015), People's Artist of Ukraine, and footballer and coach Viktor Skrypnyk (born 1969), who played for Dnipro, Werder Bremen and Ukraine. Cossack leader Antin Holovatyi (1744–1797) and writer Oles Honchar (1918–1995), whose novel The Cathedral was inspired by the Trinity Cathedral, are linked to the town. Native Oleksandr Cheliada (1981–2014), one of the Cyborgs, was killed defending Donetsk airport.
Samar lies on the right bank of the Samara, next to the Samara floodplains, the Samara Forest and Samara Bay, making it a recreation centre of the region. Its pride is the nine-domed wooden Holy Trinity Cathedral (1772–1781), built without a single iron nail. Also worth seeing are the Petro Kalnyshevskyi Museum of Local History, the MiG-21 monument to the pilots of the 295th Fighter Aviation Division, Suchkov Park with its embankment and the wooden Humpback Bridge over the Samara. Order a bouquet from anywhere in the world and we will hand it over in Samar.
