What to know about Novoiavorivsk
Novoiavorivsk is one of the youngest towns in Lviv Oblast. It was founded in 1965 as the workers' settlement of Yantarne next to the sulphur deposits and the Yavoriv mining and chemical plant, renamed Novoiavorivske in 1969, granted town status on 20 January 1986 and renamed Novoiavorivsk in 2008. The three triangles on its coat of arms are the geological symbol for sulphur ore.

Singer and Skriabin frontman Andriy Kuzmenko (1968–2015) lived here and started out in a studio at the Krystal Palace of Culture. Mykhailo Khoma (b. 1983), known as DZIDZIO, and European rowing champion Olena Olefirenko (b. 1978) were born in the town. Novoiavorivsk also honours Roman Varenytsia and Vitaliy Kotsiuba, Heavenly Hundred heroes and Heroes of Ukraine who lived here.
Novoiavorivsk today
The town sits between Roztochia and the Sian Lowland at the headwaters of the Shklo River, 30 km from Lviv. Since 1992 the Krystal Palace of Culture has hosted the annual Moloda Halychyna festival, international since 2009. Landmarks include the Church of Saints Peter and Paul (1995), the wooden St George Church moved from the village of Vilshanytsia, and the 1997 monuments to Taras Shevchenko and Ivan Mazepa.
