Pukhivka in brief

Pukhivka is a village rich in legends. According to them, the people of the Pukhiv stronghold resisted the Mongol invasion in 1240, and the place is linked with the Desna stronghold of Volodymyr the Great's time. Another story explains the name by the down (pukh) that local monks gathered from their ducks and geese. In the Middle Ages the village was known as Komarivka and belonged to a monastery while administratively part of the Hoholiv company of the Kyiv regiment. A 1781 survey counted 55 houses, and on 14 October 1808 the new Church of the Intercession was opened. In 1966 the local state farm became the Pukhivka poultry farm.

Pukhivka is the birthplace of Viktor Tereshchenko (1936–2025), academician of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine, art historian Olena Zahaietska (born 1948) and poet Vira Kholoshvii (born 1955).

The village belongs to the Zazymia community of Brovary district, and its parts still carry old folk names such as Dubovytsia, Zahreblia, Zaseredykha and Rodosyn.
