What to know about Ratne

Archaeology dates Ratne to the late 11th century, and it is first mentioned in writing at the end of the 12th century. The 1366 treaty between Casimir III the Great and the Lithuanian princes listed Ratne among towns passing to Poland, and in the 14th and early 15th centuries it was the seat of the Ratne Principality ruled by Fedir Olgerdovych. In 1440 the town received Magdeburg rights, an annual fair and its own seal. By 1868 it had a creamery, two tanneries, a brewery and a brickworks, and six fairs a year.

Notable people of Ratne
