Ripky in brief

Ripky has been known since 1607. In the Hetmanate era it belonged to the Roishche company of the Chernihiv Regiment, and its residents took part in the liberation struggle led by Bohdan Khmelnytskyi. Ripky became a district centre in 1923 and an urban-type settlement in 1958; it was liberated from the Nazi occupiers on 26 September 1943. Today it is the centre of Ripky hromada in Chernihiv Raion.

Notable people of Ripky

Metropolitan Antonii Stakhovskyi (1671–1740), Archbishop of Chernihiv and later Metropolitan of Tobolsk, was born here, as were poet Leonid Horlach, winner of the 2013 Shevchenko Prize, and chemist Iryna Mizetska (1911–1994).
