Sakhnovshchyna: a little history
Sakhnovshchyna began in the early 19th century as the khutir of Kobyliachyn, founded by settlers from Kobeliaky county. The Kostiantynohrad–Lozova railway, built in 1897–1900, turned it into a railway settlement named after the station built on landowner Sakhnovskyi's estate. In 1910 it had 877 residents, and in 1938 it became an urban-type settlement.
Notable people of Sakhnovshchyna
Mathematician Vladyslav Dziadyk (1919–1998), linguist Olha Muromtseva (1938–2008) and actor and film director Oleksii Zavorotnii (born 1948) were born here; painter and stage designer Taras Shevchenko (1929–2015) lived in the town. Locals honour National Guard junior sergeant Oleksii Dziubka (1982–2023), awarded the title Hero of Ukraine posthumously in 2025.
