Slavutych is Ukraine's youngest city and is considered the last city built in the USSR. It was founded in 1986–1987 after the Chornobyl disaster to rehouse Chornobyl NPP workers and residents of Prypiat. Construction was approved on 2 October 1986, the name was given on 19 February 1987, and the first flat was handed over on 26 March 1988. Oleksandr Pankov headed the first city executive committee, and Volodymyr Udovychenko led the city from 1990 to 2015. Architects and builders from eight Soviet republics built Slavutych, so its quarters bear the names of capitals and each has its own style. The Golden Autumn of Slavutych festival began here in 1994, and in 2021 the city was named a Small Cultural Capital of Ukraine. Slavutych was liberated from Russian occupation on 3 April 2022.
According to Oleksandr Pankov, the city was named by architect Fedir Borovyk (b. 1937), who helped build it, won the State Prize of Ukraine in Architecture and is an honorary citizen. Film producer Nadiia Parfan (b. 1986), co-founder of the 86 film and urbanism festival, and singer Ivan Dorn (b. 1988) are also linked with the city.
The name is a poetic name for the Dnipro, which flows 10 km away. Slavutych is an exclave of Kyiv Oblast inside Chernihiv Oblast, divided into quarters rather than streets, with all power lines laid underground. Its symbol is the 15-metre White Angel monument on Central Square. Worth seeing are the Museum of Slavutych and the Chornobyl NPP, the "Slavutych — a Link of Generations" mural in the Kyivskyi quarter and the Church of Our Mother of Perpetual Help. You can order a bouquet from anywhere in the world, and we will hand it over in Slavutych.
In Slavutych people navigate by quarters rather than streets, so our courier takes bouquets straight to the Kyivskyi, Tbiliskyi, Yerevanskyi or Bakynskyi quarter, to the Ryzkyi, Vilniuskyi and Tallinnskyi quarters, and to Pecherskyi, Dobryninskyi and Dniprovskyi. From Kyiv the route runs via Chernihiv on the M-01 and then along the R56. Flowers often go to the administrative services centre at 2 Heroiv Dnipra Street, Medical Unit No. 5 on Zbroinykh Syl Ukrainy Street, the White Angel on Central Square or the city park. It is about 120 km to central Kyiv.
