Starokostiantyniv — the town of the Ostrozki princes

Its written history goes back to 1525, and the town grew on the site of the village of Kolyshchentsi: in 1561 Prince Vasyl-Kostiantyn Ostrozkyi founded a town here, which received Magdeburg rights the same year. Between 1561 and 1571 the Ostrozki Princes' Castle rose at the confluence of the Sluch and Ikopot rivers. In 1618 the town withstood a siege by a large Tatar army, and in July 1648, during the Khmelnytskyi Uprising, Maksym Kryvonis's forces operated nearby.
