Tlumach: a little history
The Hypatian Chronicle mentions Tlumach under 1213. The settlement arose under Prince Yaroslav Osmomysl on the trade route from Halych to the east, and its name comes from the tovmachi, interpreters at the princely court. It received Magdeburg rights in 1448.
Famous names of Tlumach
Lawyer Ivan Makukh (1872–1946), a member of the Galician Diet and interior minister of the West Ukrainian People's Republic, lived and worked here, as did children's poet Mariika Pidhirianka (1881–1963).
Tlumach today
On the Tlumachyk River, the town grew around a sugar factory founded in 1838 and today has food and building-materials industries. Landmarks include the Sokil society building and the town park with its memorial to fallen soldiers. We deliver bouquets to any address in Tlumach.
