Blahovishchenske: from a factory settlement to a town
Blahovishchenske's story begins in 1870, when Countess Maria Stroganova, n?e Potocka, started building a sugar factory here, named Hrushkivskyi after the nearby village of Hrushka; a mill, a distillery, 20 houses and two barracks for workers went up alongside it. In 1921 new land on the right bank of the Synytsia was allotted for housing and the workers' settlement was named Blahovishchenske. From 1924 to 2016 it bore another name, Ulianovka; it became a town on 19 July 1974, and its historical name was restored by parliament on 19 May 2016.

Lichenologist and mycologist Serhii Kondratiuk (born 1959) is a native. Residents honour Artur Muzyka (1978–2015), posthumously promoted to colonel, who fell defending Ukraine's border.

The town lies on the Synytsia River, a left tributary of the Southern Buh, next to the Kyiv–Odesa highway (M05), about 200 km from Kropyvnytskyi; the nearest railway station is Hrushka.
