What to know about Chaiky

Chaiky is a village in Bucha District that borders Kyiv to the north and west and Petropavlivska Borshchahivka to the east; it belongs to the Borshchahivka rural hromada and had about 12,000 residents around 2017. It is best known for the Chaika motor racing circuit: designed from the late 1960s as a base for technical sports, approved in 1971 and opened on 27 June 1975. Dacha plots and low-rise Soviet houses now sit next to the Chaika, Brest-Lytovskyi, Zakhidnyi, Oxford and Sontstown residential complexes. Chaiky honours its resident Artur Yarosh, who died defending Ukraine.

The village lies on the Nyvka River. At its heart is the Chaika sports complex — a grass airfield, a circuit with large and small rings, a motorcycle track and karting, and a stadium that hosted Chaikafest, Global Gathering and ProRock, plus the Chaika hotel. Chaiky also has a gymnasium and the Birlik Crimean Tatar cultural centre with a mosque. Buses No. 37 and 37-A run to Sviatoshyn metro.
