Kotsiubynske: from Berkovets farmstead to a settlement

Kotsiubynske began in 1900 as the Berkovets farmstead, a single yard where two forest wardens' families lived. In 1903 a railway halt was built nearby, later Bilychi station, named after the old village of Bilychi known since the 12th century. The first settlers were Germans, and a sleeper mill by the station stood where a furniture factory is today. On 11 February 1941 Berkovets became an urban-type settlement named after Kotsiubynskyi, and in January 1965 it took its current name.

People of Kotsiubynske

Volunteer Maksym Rydzanych (1977–2015), who fell covering his comrades near Donetsk airport, was born and is buried here. Serhii Danish, world free-fight champion, is also a native.

Kotsiubynske today

The settlement is an enclave of Kyiv Oblast inside Kyiv's Sviatoshynskyi district, next to Bilychi Forest, part of Holosiivskyi National Park since 2014.
