Novyi Rozdil: the story of a young town
Novyi Rozdil was founded in 1953 as a mining settlement on former fields and meadows. It followed the 1950 discovery of a sulphur deposit, one of the largest in Europe. In 1958 the Rozdil Sirka mining and chemical plant opened, and the town grew around it. It received its current name in 1959 and town status in 1965.

Singer, showman and writer Kuzma Skriabin (Andrii Kuzmenko, 1968–2015), frontman of the band Skriabin, lived and worked here. TV presenter Olha Freimut was born in the town.
