Petropavlivska Borshchahivka: a little history

According to Lavrentii Pokhylevych, the village was founded in 1113, when Prince Sviatopolk Iziaslavych built St Michael's Church here and gave the village to St Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery. King Stefan Batory confirmed this ownership by a charter of 25 July 1578. In 1755 a wooden Church of St Simeon Stylites was built, rebuilt in stone in 1908–1909. In the 19th century the village was the centre of its own volost, with 872 residents in 1885 and 1,675 in 1900. It was divided into quarters: Shliakh around Soborna Street, Mahivshchyna, Solomianka and Matkivshchyna.

The village lies west of the Kyiv Ring Road, with Sviatoshyn Forest to the north, Chaiky to the west and Sofiivska Borshchahivka to the south, and it is the administrative centre of Borshchahivka hromada. Local landmarks include the Church of St Simeon Stylites on Soborna Street, the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin, first used for services on 5 May 2002, and the school stadium with an artificial pitch, home of the Chaika football team.
