Sofiivska Borshchahivka in brief

The first written record of land grants here dates from 1497, and the village is named after St Sophia's Monastery, which owned it. In 1590 Metropolitan Mykhailo Rahoza of Kyiv granted the land with all its holdings to Yefym Oleshkovych. In the 17th–18th centuries the area was known as Mylkivshchyna and Pravednytska Zemlia, and from 1937 to 2020 the village belonged to Kyiv-Sviatoshyn district. In 2010 the Kyiv Ukraine Temple was built on its outskirts and dedicated on 29 August by Thomas Monson. Sergeant Serhii Ilchenko (1982–2015) was honoured locally as a Hero-Defender of the Fatherland.

The village is separated from Kyiv by the Ring Road, borders Petropavlivska Borshchahivka to the north and Vyshneve to the south, and the Borshchahivka River runs through it. Home to 6,571 people in 2001, it has grown into a large suburban district of residential complexes, with a master plan for up to 115,000 residents. Landmarks include the Kyiv Ukraine Temple on Yabluneva Street, the Church of Saints Faith, Hope, Love and their mother Sophia (2018), a Second World War memorial, the village pond and Zelena Brama park.
