Vyshenky, a village with chronicle history

Vyshenky's recorded story begins in 1101, when the Sviatoslavych princes made peace with the Cumans nearby at Salkiv, today's Protsiv. Older still is a Zarubyntsi-culture burial ground of the 2nd century BC on a sand dune in the Dnipro floodplain, known since Khvoika's time and excavated in the 1980s with 62 burials. In 1501 the Grand Duke of Lithuania granted Vyshenky to the interpreter Berendei; later Kyiv voit Semen Meleshkevych bought it for 120 kopas of Lithuanian groschen and in 1562 gave the estate to the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra. Under the Hetmanate it belonged to the Boryspil company of the Kyiv Regiment, with 117 houses in 1781. In 2020 it formed the Zolochivska community with Petropavlivske and Hnidyn.

Famous names of Vyshenky

Natives include 18th-century poet and preacher Ivan Nekrashevych, hydrogeologist Mykola Romas (1943–2009), haematologist Stanislav Vydyborets (1957–2023), long-serving director of the Central Geophysical Observatory Oleksandr Kosovets (born 1951) and legal scholar and Central Election Commission member Oleksandra Karmaza (born 1972). Shevchenko Prize laureate Petro Zhur and his wife are buried here.

Vyshenky lies near the Dnipro, the Zoloche River and Lake Baklazhne.
